Business Situation

An independent retailer selling through two channels at once — a cash register or spreadsheet at the counter, and a marketplace storefront online — with a single pool of physical stock serving both.

Operational Challenge

The two channels never agreed. Inventory drifted apart daily: products sold out online while sitting on the shelf, and in-store sales never reached the online catalog. Keeping them aligned meant manual stock counts. Every marketplace order also gave away margin in commission, on sales the business had generated itself.

Solution

CommerceSystem replaces that patchwork with one retail platform: a central service that owns products, stock, and transactions, a POS for in-store cashier operations, and a storefront the business owns outright — no marketplace, no commission. Every sale, whether at the counter or online, updates the same inventory in real time.

Business Impact

What the system says is on the shelf is what is on the shelf, so double-selling across channels stops being possible rather than merely less frequent. The margin previously paid as marketplace commission stays with the business, and a new sales channel can be added without introducing a second stock count.

The system follows an API-first design. A Laravel REST API is the single source of truth for products, inventory, and transactions. Two independent frontends consume it: an Angular single-page application optimized for POS speed at the counter, and a Next.js storefront optimized for SEO and customer browsing. Because all writes flow through one backend, transactional consistency and inventory integrity are enforced in a single place, and additional channels can be added without touching the core.
